Oil painting of a crowded boat at night with entangled, exhausted figures and distant lights on the horizon.

2016 · Oil on canvas · 230 × 189.1 cm

This is a boat crowded past capacity, painted at night in the blues and pinks I kept returning to that year. Bodies overlap and tangle across the hull, some reaching up, most simply spent. I left the distant lights ambiguous, they could be a shore or a rescue ship, nobody in the boat can tell yet.
